Arrival of a new tug boat, the "Chambon Suroît"

2007:

Transfer of the ownership of the Port of Calais to the benefit of the Nord-Pas de Calais Regional Council.
The Regional Council becomes the port authority for the Port of Calais and that of Boulogne-sur-Mer.

Inauguration of berth 9 (March 3)

1998:

Gradual start-up from February to July 1998 of the new traffic and signalling platform on the Cross-Channel Terminal.

1997:

On 13 October 1997, the East Basin (the new Deep Water Basin) was renamed President Henri Ravisse Basin.
Start of alteration work on the traffic platform of the Cross-Channel Terminal.

1996:

Demolition of the sidings and railway networks of the Maritime station. End of demolition of the Transit Station. Entry into service of berth 5 on 18 June 1996, after the modernisation of the Linkspan to comply with the new standards in order to berth the new Jumbo Ferries. Alteration of Berth 2 to harbour Catamarans. Calais: 4th-ranking port in France for cargo.

1995:

Entry into service of berth 8 (7th Linkspan) on 12 May 1995. Entry into service of the Sugar Terminal on 12 October 1995. The last train leaves the Maritime station on 21 January 1995.

1992:

Entry into service of the Ro-Ro berth on 15 November 1992. Entry into service of Cable-laying ship berth on 26 November 1992.

1991:

Entry into service of the East By-pass, arrival of the Motorway at the Port on 05 July 1991. Entry into service of the Catamaran berth at the Hoverport on 12 July 1991.

1990:

Flooding of the Deep Water Basin on 27 February 1990. Entry into service of berth 7 (6th Linkspan) on 11 June 1990. Entry into service of the new Deep Water Basin and its 4 new cranes with the cargo liner "Anangel Hope" on 25 September 1990.

1989:

Calais: 6th-ranking port in France for cargo

1988:

Start of work on the new Deep Water Basin (the future President Henri Ravisse Basin) on 2 June 1988.

1987:

Entry into service of berth 6 (5th Linkspan) on 2 June 1987.

1986:

Inauguration and Entry into service of the East Pier. Start of work on the new East Port.

1984:

Start of work to transfer the East Pier. Demolition of the old Harbour office on 1 February 1984.

1983:

Calais: 7th-ranking port in France for cargo

1982:

Calais: 8th-ranking port in France for cargo

1980:

End of work on the pumping station. Inauguration of the Cross-Channel Terminal. Freight on 17 April 1980.
Passengers on 24 April 1980. Inauguration of the Harbour office on 10 January 1980. Start of demolition on the 1st part of the Transit Station in July 1980.

1979:

Repair of the Carnot Basin Quays. Preliminary study to transfer the East Pier. Work on the pumping station at the end of the Pierrettes Channel. Construction of a two-level structure for Berth 3 (from 10/79 to 03/80). Entry into service of the Harbour office on 9 October 1979. Demolition of Vétillard Bridge no. 1 on 21 February 1979.

1978:

End of foundation consolidation work on Paul Devot Quay. Extension of the approach ramps to the Calais Hoverport. Work on the pumping station. End of restoration work on the Swing Bridge of the Lock of the West Basin. Construction of a two-level berth structure for Berth 4 (from 10/78 to 03/79).

1977:

End of reconstruction work on Faidherbe Bridge.

1976:

Inauguration of Berth 5 (4th Linkspan) on 12 January 1975. 1st twin-level berth on the Port. End of reconstruction work on the West Basin.

1975:

Construction of the new Paul Devot hangar. Foundation consolidation work on Volga Quay. Start of work on Berth 5.

1974:

Reconstruction of Faidherbe Bridge.

1973:

Construction of the new Fournier Hangar. Start of foundation consolidation work on Paul Devot Quay.

1972:

Inauguration of the BORE Terminal with a new berth and hangar. Inauguration of Berth 2 (3rd Linkspan) on August 2, 1972.

1971:

Foundation consolidation work on Paul Devot Quay.

1970:

End of reconstruction work on the West Basin Quay.

1969:

Inauguration of the East Hoverport on 26 June 1969. Creation of the BORE Ro/Ro Complex. First ship on 15 April 1969. Official entry into service, October 1, 1969.

1967:

Creation of a Marina in the Port of Calais. Entry into service on July 1, 1967.

1966:

First commercial exploitation of the Hovercraft service, on April 30, 1966.

1965:

Inauguration of the second Linkspan (Berth 4) on May 19, 1965.

1964:

Completion of the reconstruction of the South Quay.

1963:

Shutdown of the 14-m lock of the Vétillard Bridge and backfilling.

1961:

Construction of lock houses. Repair work on the South part of the Loire Quay.

1960:

Reconstruction of the standing road bridge crossing the series of Shipping Locks.

1959:

Repair of the Shipping Locks. Repair of the Tidal Quay. Handover of the Maritime station buildings on April 10, 1959. Official inauguration of the Vétillard Bridges, the Maritime station and the Transit Station on September 10, 1959.

1929:

Excavation work in front of the Maritime station platform. Construction of a deepwater Tidal Quay. Construction of two breakwaters on either side of the Channel. Start of work on the Harbour office.

1927:

Electrification and transformation of the lights of the East Pier.
Improvement of the signalling at the entry to the port.

1926:

Creation of an access avenue to the new West Pier.

1925:

Construction scheme for a Harbour office.

1924-1925:

Electrification of the central hydraulic machinery for the production of compressed water to drive the cranes and operate the Carnot Locks.

1920:

Modifications and Work on the gates and masonry of the 21-meter Lock of the Carnot Basin.

1916:

Installation in the Port hydraulic machinery of a compression machine.

Reconstruction of the West Pier.

1910:

Improvement work on the Channel.

1907:

Construction of the Lock for the West Flushing Basin to extend that of the West Basin.

1898:

Construction of a Lock to extend the Rue de la Mer. Construction of a new bridge on the Citadel Lock. Replacement of the ladders on the Paradise Basin and the East Quay of the Dry Harbour.

1898-1911:

Improvement of the West part of the Port.

1897:

Improvements made to the mooring buoys installed in the Outer Port and the Carnot Basin.

1896:

Restoration of the operating machinery for the Flood and Shipping Locks. Dredging of the channel and the outer port. Installation of a signal mast at the end of the East Pier.

1894:

Repair of the apron of the West Pier. Removal of the foundations of the pierhead of the old East Pier.

1891:

Reconstruction of the facing of the solid West Jetty.

1889:

Inauguration of the new Port of Calais on June 3, 1889. Inauguration of the Maritime station on October 21, 1889.

1887:

Construction of shelters for the dredger workshop and warehouse.

1886:

Renewal of the linkspan for the West Flushing Lock.

1885:

Construction of a linkspan to replace the crenelated wall of the Citadel lock. Installation of access ladders for boats along the quays of Paradise Basin.

1883-1895:

Reconstruction of the East Pier.

1884:

Construction of the South and East quays of the Outer Port. Construction of the gates for the Locks of the East Tidal Basin. Construction of the operating machinery for the Locks of the East Tidal Basin.

1883:

Public Tooling Concession for the Port of Calais (July 22). Construction of a Dry dock in the Carnot Basin. Painting and tarring of the West Pier (August). Installation of a tide gauge and a river gauge (August). Renewal of the flood tide gates of the Citadel Lock.

1882:

Dredging of the East Flushing Basin. Construction of the rear East Tidal Basin and the Shipping Basin.

1881:

Improvement of the Channel. Additional work on the Outer Port and the Tidal basin. Installation of various hangars. Diversion of the Marck Canal.

1880:

Extension of the West Tidal basin. Construction of wooden wharves for the West Tidal basin.

1879:

Construction of the walls of the Tidal Basin Quay. Start of work on the Carnot Locks. Reconstruction of the East Pier.

1876:

Reconstruction of the lock gates on the Citadel Lock.

1875:

Construction of the new Port of Calais

1867:

Entry into service of the ancillary Maritime station on the East Pier on August 6, 1867.

1860-1861:

Construction of the Harbour Office Kiosk on Colonne Quay. Entry into service on September 1, 1861.

1859:

Construction scheme for the Harbour Office Kiosk.

1849:

Entry into service of the Paradise Maritime station and the Landing stage of the West Basin on August 19, 1849.

1848:

Arrival on September 2, 1848 of the first train to Calais. Entry into service of the new Lighthouse on October 15, 1848.

1845:

Start of work on the new lighthouse (rubble clearance) on 4 September 1845. Construction starts on November 11, 1845.

1834-1839:

Construction of a West Tidal basin and of a Flushing Lock, connection of the canals to the Sea by the Port. The project is designed by Chief Engineer "Raffeneau de Lisle". The first stone is laid on June 24, 1834.

1818-1824:

Construction of the grid-type East Pier.

1816:

Paving of the South Quay of Paradise Basin.

1811-1819:

Construction of Orleans Quay.

1790-1791:

Construction of Asfeld Lock.

1701-1784:

Construction of the Locks, the Crucifix, dewatering of the Asfeld canal and the Citadel.
Extension of the Piers.

1599-1620:

Re-establishment of the seawalls built by the English.

1553:

Henri VIII has plans drawn up to improve the Port including a large flushing lock, a protecting lock at Fort Nieulay and a stone quay connecting the flushing lock to Fort Risban.

1447:

The Piers end at Risban Tower.

1397:

The English dig the "Large Paradise" basin, and repair the "Small Paradise" basin, today Paradise Basin. They also build the first Piers at the foot of Fort Risban.

1366:

Construction by the English of a trading stage for the wool trade between England and Flanders.
Construction of the access channel to the Port.

1196:

Renaud de Dammartin has a goods warehouse built.

1190:

Concession Charter for the Port of Calais by Duke Henri de Leuwen with the Aldermen and Burgers.
