The Cross-Channel terminal of the Port of Calais is directly linked to the A16 and A26 motorways with connections to the European motorway system.

As the leading port for trade with the United Kingdom, the Port of Calais is also a major port for conventional trade, one of its many assets being its "quayside" industrial zone.
A general view of the Cross-Channel terminal with its two-level traffic system: traffic embarking on board the ferries circulates at ground level, while vehicles disembarking from the ships use the upper lanes.
The traffic system in service on the Cross-Channel terminal of the Port of Calais considerably improves the fluidity of traffic by eliminating any cross-over of vehicles embarking or disembarking from the car ferries.
Two-level access ramps each with dual traffic lanes mean vehicle on-loading and off-loading operations take place under optimum conditions.
Berth 9, which was inaugurated on March 3, 2006, further completes the facilities available on the Cross-Channel platform of the Port of Calais.

The commercial port
The Port of Calais is the leading cable port in Europe. Submarine cables used as power lines or optic fibers for telecommunications are manufactured in Calais by Alcatel Cable.
A conventional commercial port, the Port of Calais has a deepwater basin capable of harboring ships of the "Panamax" class on its three berths.
In 2004, 132,000 new cars manufactured by the P.S.A. Group transited either to or from the United Kingdom via the Port of Calais.
