The National Council on Public Polls had submitted its findings concerning the « Calais Port 2015 » project in January and the general contractor (Region Nord/Pas-de-Calais) had a deadline of three months to respond to these findings and to express its intention to continue or not this project by taking into account the comments made. Consider it done since Wednesday 21 April after a rich and reasoned debate.
After a screening of the video presented during the public debate sessions in last autumn, the President of the Particular Commission on Public Debates - M. Ténière-Buchot - reminded us the process that would end with the deliberation of the Regional Council.
M. Jean-Marc Puissesseau, President of the CCI of Calais, manager of port facilities, then outlined the highlights of this project, followed to the podium by the Mayor of Calais, Mrs Natacha Bouchart, who insisted on the support of the municipality to the project « Calais Port 2015 » and on its complementarity with the urban regeneration process and, particularly, the project of Territorial Excellence developed around the basins of the port’s western part.
Then the various political groups expressed themselves: each has confirmed its support while reminding a number of requirements on the justifications, the coastal port cooperation, the Environment.
After a new intervention of President Puissesseau providing some answers to questions and comments that had just been expressed, this session ended with an unanimous vote in favour of the project, less one abstention.
It’s the second time that the Project "Calais Port 2015”, which has become a regional project since 2007, collects a so favorable review in the plenary session of the Nord / Pas-de-Calais.
The CCI of Calais, speaking through its President, thanked the Region and its President Daniel Percheron, the City and the Township Committee of Calais for their flawless support to the strategic development project for the logistics positioning of the port, the economy and jobs in Calais and in the Region.
