The Commercial port
By type of stevedoring :
The commercial port handles all commercial activities except for Cross-Channel services, accommodating Ro-Ro traffic, various goods as well as dry bulk.

Operations can be carried out in 3 different basins, including 1 wet dock.

The terminals are multi-user.
Ro-Ro berths
The Port of Calais, first-ranking Ro-Ro port on the continent, has 3 berths equipped with single-bridge linkspans to receive this traffic.
  • The T4 single-bridge linkspan located at the end of the East Basin can accommodate Ro-Ro ships up to 180 metres long with a 9-metre draught,
  • The T1 single-bridge linkspan, located in the outer harbour can accommodate ships of 130 metres. The draught is 7 metres,
  • The T3 single-bridge linkspan, located at the end of the East Basin, can accommodate catamarans and Ro-Ro ships up to 100 metres long with a 9-metre draught.
These 3 linkspans are connected to a 25-ha quayage.

Thanks to the exceptional location of the Port of Calais and the high-quality services it offers, these quayages receive on a daily basis shipments of new cars bound for the ports of Sheerness on the Thames and Killingholme on the Humber estuary.

In addition, these harbour facilities are serviced and equipped for other types of unitised traffic such as containers and trailers.
Various goods and dry bulk
The various goods and dry bulk at the Port of Calais are processed at 3 docks: the East Basin, the inner harbour (Paul Devot Quay) and the Carnot Basin.
  • The East Basin
The north quay of the basin, 725 metres in length, is dredged to -12 meters. It can accomodate Panamax-type ships up to 245 metres long, an 11.5-metre draught, and no width restriction.
The quays are equipped with 4 multi-use cranes with a capacity of 600 tonnes/h and 22 tons at 40 metres.
The north quay of this basin is also equipped with 2 silos with a total capacity of 67,000 tons used for storing and processing sugar.
The southern quay of the basin is equipped with a specialised linkspan for loading underwater cables. This linkspan is fed by an underground shaft directly connecting the quay to the Alcatel Submarine Networks manufacturing unit located in the immediate vicinity of the port.
  • The back harbor (Paul Devot quay)
The back harbour has a multi-use quay named the "Paul Devot" quay, which accepts ships up to 190 metres long and 9.00 metres in draught, and is equipped with 2 15-tonne cranes.
  • The Carnot Basin
The Carnot Basin is located behind a lock and is dedicated to small bulk.
Quays : the basin has 1,680 meters of quays dredged to -7.00 meters.
Ship size : the lock allows entry into the basin of ships with a maximum 150 metres in length, 19.5 metres in breadth, and 6.4 metres in draught. The access is restricted by the tide times.

Stevedoring : the ships are worked by 4 12-tonne mobile cranes, 2 Liebherr (LHM 150) and 2 Fuchs (MHL 380).

Storage : The basin provides a storage capacity of about 25,100 sq. m.
