The strait of Pas-de-Calais is an inevitable point of passage for cross-channel transit.

The proximity of the United Kingdom enables the Port of Calais to offer a large number of daily departures to Dover. Over 50 ferry crossings are carried out on a daily basis between the ports of Dover and Calais.

The quality infrastructures at the Port of Calais are built to handle this heavy flow of traffic, enabling over 1.8 million heavy trucks a year to quickly deliver goods in the United Kingdom.

Motorway access

The quays of the Port of Calais are directly accessible from the A16 and A26 motorways. From the point you land in Calais, access to major European cities is fast and easy.
In the same way, the twin port of Dover has the best connection to London and the North of all the British ports.
Security
Security issues now occupy a central position in transport and logistics, and the Port of Calais has massively invested in new technological and human means of intrusion detection. Calais, ahead of the curve with regards to harbour safety in Europe, takes advantage of its incomparable amount of experience to benefit its customers. Our quest for excellence and for results which drives the port to help customers prevent the legal troubles with the British authorities and commercial difficulties with their loaders that result from the presence of intruders in vehicles. Our strict quality controls are only equalled by our obsession with keeping port traffic moving in order to guarantee a safe and fast flow of vessels. Significant work has been undertaken on the terminal in order to absorb traffic as much as possible and reduce the time from the motorway to the embarkation parking area to twenty minutes. Massive investments have been made in port security, including the purchase of 3 heartbeat detectors and 2 passive millimetre wave detector (PMMW). In addition to possessing these tools, the port also measures variations in the rate of CO2. Security inspections continue with an identification check by the BIA (British Immigration Agency) present at the Port of Calais and by targeted checks by public authorities (Customs, PAF, BIA). Entry approval at this last checkpoint gives access to the enclosed areas.
The Terminal
The Transmanche terminal has a streamlined road system which makes embarking and disembarking easy and safe. The companies have 5 berths equipped with double-bridge linkspans to accelerate the pace of operations at the quay. These berths can accommodate large ferries and RoPax up to 210 metres long.
Fleets
With 13 operational cross-channel ships, the Port of Calais has the highest capacity of ships bound for Dover of any French port, both in terms of quayages and number of trips, which speeds up the journey for drivers.
