With more than 60 car ferry, hovercraft and fast ferries
departures daily in 2001, Calais confirmed its dominance
as the principal port on the European mainland for passenger
traffic.
On
average some 50,000 passengers passed through the Port each
day during the year in question.
High
points of 2001 were on June 2 with 83.820 passengers counted
and August 18 when more than 16.285 cars passed through
the Car Ferry Complex.
The
traffic in commercial vehicles peaked on October 10 with
a total of 6.295 movements.
